Classical & Contempary Music in Amsterdam

A pleasant feature of the Amsterdam music scene is the free lunch-time concert, usually chamber music, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm (not June, July or August, when everyone goes on holidays). The Muziektheater offers free concerts of 20th-century music on Tuesday in the Boekmanzaal; on Wednesday the Concertgebouw has chamber music or classical concerts (often public rehearsals), sometimes also jazz, but you won't be the only visitor taking advantage of this; and on Friday the Bethanienklooster puts on anything from medieval to contemporary, while the Usbreker specialises in contemporary music.
